Retreat!

Our Edge team in front of the Camp Lebanon sign.

2 Timothy 2:22 was our verse for the retreat this weekend at Camp Lebanon. "Run from the evil desires of your youth and instead pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart." That came easily from memory as we really did "hide the Word in our hearts". I loved the idea of actually running from the evil one and from temptations and running towards the things God wants from us: faith, love and peace! Great actions were made to help remember the verse. I hope it stuck with the kids so easily too!

A few other things I learned this weekend:

1. Our God can fix a church van that will not start once stopped for supper at Burger King. Thanks to our angel Leon who worked there!

2. Getting to camp late means getting even less sleep that you had planned!

3. Winter camp means being outside in the fridged snow - a lot! My buns were numb so many times over by Sunday they about froze off!

4. Having devotions with five girls on a snow bench can be a blast. Sliding down a hazardous hill on your butt with those same girls shortly after is AWESOME!

5. Broomball can kill you, especially at late hours of the evening such as 10 pm. (Nobody actually died, it sure felt awful for some though.)

6. When it's time for Dodgeball it is best to stay hidden with another adult and share a great time of conversation knowing, from the sounds of it, that your students are doing fine just above your heads.

7. Sleep is not a high priority of the fifth and sixth grade generations. We averaged about 4 to 5 hours of sleep, not enough for any one of us. By Sunday some couldn't seeor think straight - they started not just hanging out with, but sitting next to boys, as in the ones who supposedly have cooties!

8. The Iditarod is really meant for dogs, not kids.

9. Schedules always change and it is best to take camp one day, or one hour, at a time.

10. Coming home to your family is great!

My girls at the breakfast table all wide-eyed and bushy tailed.

Our girls did a Pink Ladies rap to share the Bible verse. We were hot stuff!

The boys without their fearless leaders. They should really keep a closer eye on these kids!
