Foody Friday: Husband Faves

No. my husband's favorite food is not raccoon, but I wanted to honor him today with such a photo. This is the coon he killed to save our house from total destruction - no kidding, just ask him about it sometime. It's quite the story!

I asked my husband at the dinner table the other night, "What is your favorite dish?" He thought and said that the first thing that came to his mind was Country Fried Steak. Okay, so not something I have ever attempted to make for him. I told him to try again and he as not yet gotten back to me on that. Yikes -time to step it up a bit around here!

So why have I never made this favorite dish? Well, first of all, I never heard of it until we met and second, well, here's the recipe, let is speak for itself. I received it from a family member years ago and still wonder if half the recipe got lost in translation!

Country Fried Steak

Mix 1-2 eggs and 1-2 cups milk

Dunk cubed steak in milk/egg mixture.
Roll in finely crushed Saltine Cracker crumbs.
Pour enough oil in the fry pan to cover the bottom.
Fry steaks on medium to medium high heat.

Not the detailed recipe to say the least, but still a bit intimidating for something you have never tried or nor tasted. I think I might just have to have Jason make this one, or then again, go straight to the source. Next time his mom is in town I will have her show me what's what. Unless...you have tried it and have some comments for me!?!

OH my GOODNESS!
(This is the second time this morning I've started a comment with that) :)

You MUST blog the story of Jason and the coon. I'm extrordinarily curious.

I've never made Chicken Fried Steak, either. I know that you buy the steak that's all pounded and tenderized. You can find it at the grocery, I think.

:)

OK, do you ever leave a comment and THEN read it, and realize it sounds completely stupid?

Of course you find your steak at the grocery store.

where else would you find it? Except that you have a picture of a coon on your Foody Friday post. So who knows. ;o)

That is HILARIOUS! Both the raccoon and the recipe.

I think it would be better if you just took him to Denny's. Denny's screams Country Fried Steak!

That is hysterical!! What a recipe! :) I did attempt to make my hubby Chicken Fried Steak a few weeks ago (a slightly different recipe) and I was not at all impressed with how it came out. I think it was something I did wrong, though...quite sure of it. And frankly, I am not a big fan of frying things...all that oil sort of grosses me out.

Great picture! :)
