Tips for Tots Tuesday: Shoe Store

Seth has worn his most recent pair of shoes to death. Yes, he has one at a time unless we receive a hand me down. There are rain and snow boats and a pair of sandals, so I guess that makes more than one considering all the elements. Shoes are just too expensive for the amount of time your child actually wears them. Though come to think of it I am not much of a shoe snob either. You would be shocked to know that I have very few pairs.

So I need to go shoe shopping. I look at Target but am always disappointed at the quality or how they go on. I like ties only because they are easy to buy a little bigger and then be able to tighten properly and still keep ankles and feet safe. Now that we keep trying the potty thing with Seth I realize that shoes he can remove on his own are important so I will look into Velcro this round.

Kohls's usually has some good deals on shoes but the amount of options for boys who like to play in the mud is sometimes slim. Why would a shoe company even make white tennis shoes? Are they crazy? They won't even stay clean in the box in my home! We have also checked out Marshals and Famous Footwear but again the pickings are slim. Maybe now that sandals are moving out there will be more though. I was in a month ago.

Where do you buy your children's shoes and just how big do you buy them? I would love to know so leave a comment if you are willing.

I like Payless but they are always more expensive than I expect. They have wides for kids too.

Thrift Stores :) I always find stride rite shoes for Isaac at the thrifts... but that's not a one-stop shop, you have to go somewhat regularly to find what you're looking for.

We buy a 1/2 size up... that usually will last them 6 months or so... but I often find shoes in all different sizes and buy way ahead, if I see a good brand for a good price, I know he'll fit into it at SOME point.

Hey Mandy, love the site:) I too buy shoes at thrift stores/consignmet when possible. I also check out end-of-season clearance for the next year at a variety of stores and buy one size (or more) bigger. I also check out Stride Rites end of season clearance for tennis shoes--more pricey but as my boys get bigger I'm more concerned that they have tennis shoes that fit well. :)

Allie and Zach both have wide feet, so a lot of the Target and Kohl's shoes never fit. I've gotten quite a few good deals at the Stride Rite Outlet store in Albertville. I also buy a 1/2 size bigger and that works well. I just made a trip out there last month and bought for both the kids to hopefully last through the winter. I can't believe how fast feet grow-good grief!
